Karen is passionate about therapy, believes no one knows your life better than you do, and that clients should be in the driver's seat throughout their therapeutic process. Karen’s approach to therapy is with empathy, humor, and empowering clients. She utilizes person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy. She has experience in grief & loss, substance abuse, boundaries, and identity conflict. Karen is a first-generation student in the Rehabilitation Counseling program at the University of Northern Colorado. She is bilingual, speaks Spanish and English, and is heavily involved in Latino/a culture. She is open and enthusiastic about working with all different types of clients and finding her niche. Karen strives to create a warm and welcoming environment with a professional client-counselor relationship that encourages clients to share their thoughts and experiences openly.

Upon graduation, Karen plans to become a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and minored in Anthropology from the University of Northern Colorado. Although Karen has not worked in the profession before, she does have experience through her current program’s practicum, where she had a consistent client caseload. She also has experience from her undergraduate internship, where she created mental health programs for children that consisted of activities and education on mental health.
